To facilitate the import and export of personal goods, we have prepared essential information regarding customs procedures applicable to individuals conducting commercial transactions through international postal shipments.
- What is the Intrinsic Value of Goods?
The intrinsic value of goods refers to the actual value of imported or exported goods, excluding transportation, insurance, and loading, unloading, and transshipment costs. - Tax-Free Limit for Imported Goods
- For parcels with an intrinsic value up to 150 euros: Goods imported into the Republic of Moldova that do not exceed 150 euros and are for personal use are exempt from customs duties, VAT, and excise taxes.
- For parcels with an intrinsic value exceeding 150 euros: VAT is applied, and a customs declaration must be submitted for a fee.
- Value of Goods Subject to Export Declaration
If the value of goods exported by individuals exceeds 1000 euros, an export declaration must be filed. The service for filing an export declaration is subject to a fee. - What Are Goods for Personal Use? Goods for personal use are items intended exclusively for personal use or consumption, including:
- Clothing and footwear
- Bedding and personal equipment
- Cosmetics and hygiene products
- Medications and foodstuffs
- Household equipment for daily needs
These goods are not intended for commercial or industrial activities. The customs officer has the right to request proof of the purpose of the imported or exported goods.
- What to Do If Your Shipment Is Stopped by Customs
If your shipment is detained and you are informed of the need to pay taxes and duties, follow these steps:- Obtain a Preliminary Calculation: You can request a preliminary calculation of taxes and duties and detailed consultation at MENTOR Express SRL’s brokerage department.
- Visit the Customs Officer: Bring your passport or ID card. The customs authority may request proof of payment for goods and other documents proving their value and origin.
- Pay Taxes and Duties: After completing the procedure, you will receive a receipt for the payment of taxes and duties.
